Quick guide to opening your pool
Fancy a first dip? With the warm season upon us, it's time to get your backyard pool up and running again: here's our quick guide to opening your pool

1. Discover and clean
Carefully remove the winter cover, avoiding leaves and debris from ending up in the tub.
Run a sponge along the edge to prevent dirt from falling into the water.
Use the net to remove any branches or floating debris.
2. Check the tank and systems
Check the structure for cracks or damage. Check the pump, filter, skimmer and fittings for leaks or wear. Make sure the ladder and safety accessories are intact.

3. Water level at the right point. During the winter the water may drop: bring the level back to half the skimmer before starting the filter.
4. Analysis and balancing
With a test kit check pH, alkalinity, chlorine. Correct the values.
Perform a shock chlorination to eliminate algae and bacteria (respect the product dosages).
5. Cleaning the filter.
Run it on high to keep the water clean. Let the filtration system run for at least a day: the chemicals will distribute and the water will be crystal clear again. Remember to backwash the sand filter or replace the cartridge if necessary.

6. Safety first. Check that handrails, ladders, non-slip mats and life-saving equipment are secure and in good condition.

7. Brush, vacuum, prevent. Brush the walls and bottom. Run the vacuum cleaner (manual or automatic) to remove sediment. Repeat once a week to keep algae away.

8. Weekly maintenance
Once the season starts:
Regular chemical tests with correction if necessary.
Clean skimmer basket and pump pre-filter.
Wash or replace the filter according to the manufacturer's instructions.
