Lithium batteries: quality and characteristics
It is increasingly common to hear about lithium batteries, given that they are now very widespread and power our everyday tools. In fact, we can find them in smartphones, vacuum cleaners, garden machines, power tools and much more... They are a very important element of electric motors. In addition to feeding them, they also dictate part of their performance and quality.
What values should be taken into consideration when evaluating a lithium battery?
To better understand battery values, we can compare them to the values of a car. Watts are obtained by multiplying Ah and V.
In addition to this example which already gives an idea of the values to take into consideration, there are two other important aspects to consider but still less understandable for the final consumer:
The quality of lithium cells
In fact, lithium cells are not all the same, there are different types which can still have the same values (V, Ah and W). It is very difficult to understand the quality unless specific comparisons are made. Therefore the end consumer must rely on the brand that sells the battery. In fact, a brand that sells at cheap prices will choose lithium cells with low performance, less resistant, in case of more intensive use. Consequently they will also be less durable over time.
Battery technology and battery structure
The highest quality batteries have an electronic board inside them that manages the delivery of power to the motor. For example, batteries with more advanced electronic cards are able to recognize cells that are heating up too much, making them work less and at the same time requesting greater power delivery to the colder cells. Even the structure of the battery itself is important to avoid the intrusion of dust and water and to resist any impacts to the battery. There are even batteries that have gel technology inside them that allows the cells to be cooled during operation.
There are batteries on the market which, based on their values, have the same performance but which cost double or triple compared to the cheaper ones: this makes us understand that in addition to the numerical values, other aspects must be taken into account which are sometimes difficult to evaluate. Therefore it is important to rely on the retailer and the brand that will allow us to choose, based on the expense we want to face, the quality suited to our needs.
