Energy saving? LED bulbs are a solution
Finally LED bulbs are starting their climb to become the most used ones inside our homes, something that was not possible before due to their high cost which is still higher than low consumption ones, but as we will see the higher initial outlay will be compensated over time. Let's consider a simple, intuitive and practical example to easily understand how convenient LED bulbs actually are: let's think about keeping a light bulb on 6 hours a day, for every day, for an annual total of 2190 (365 days) hours which emits 100 W. Furthermore, let's take into account that the power used in an average home is 3 kW and the single-rail cost is approximately €0.167/kW.
HALOGEN BULB
A halogen bulb that emits 100 W and consumes 77 takes 12.98 hours to consume 1 kW and therefore spend €0.167. Considering that it would consume 168.72 kW in a year, the energy cost would be 28,17 €.
LOW CONSUMPTION BULB
Considering a low consumption light bulb that emits, like the one previously, 100 W and actually consumes 23 and takes 50.36 h to consume 1 kW, therefore to spend €0.167. In a year this type of light bulb would consume 50.36 kW, multiplying this figure by the hourly cost of one kW, the total energy cost would be 8,4 €.
LED BULB
Finally, let's take as an example a latest generation LED bulb that always emits our 100 W and actually consumes less than the 90%, i.e. 10 W. This takes 100 hours to consume one kW (therefore spending €0.167). Over the course of our 365 days it would consume 43.48 kW and by multiplying this figure by the average hourly cost of one kW, we arrive at the astonishing result of just 3,65 € for the energy cost.
It should also be considered that halogen bulbs have an average lifespan of approx 1000 hours, those with low consumption of approx 10000 and those LEDs of well 50000 hours.
With these simple data we can clearly see the great savings that a LED bulb can bring, despite its higher price, within a maximum of 2 years (compared to an already efficient low consumption bulb) it is paid off and in the following years it is everything is gained...and if you think about all the light bulbs that a house uses, the savings are truly advantageous!
