Gazebo: Complete Buying Guide

A quick and practical guide to correctly choose the structure and fixings for a gazebo.

Choose which gazebo to buy it is not a choice to be taken lightly; the purchase of a gazebo must be carefully considered based on the characteristics of the spaces that will accommodate it. In fact, based on the support surface and the climatic characteristics, different choices will have to be made: how to fix the gazebo to the ground? Use concrete ballasts? Use pegs? Which structure is it preferable?

Summer is coming again this year, and with it the desire to be outdoors. In this guide we want to define some simple rules for choosing the solution best suited to our gazebo needs.

Gazebos with wooden structures, they are certainly the most pleasing to the eye, a real piece of furniture capable of giving a touch of style to our garden or terrace. The only disadvantage that the wooden structure entails is the need for maintenance; wood is a living material and when outdoors under the action of the sun and water it deteriorates, therefore we recommend at least 1 or 2 times a year to sand and re-apply the appropriate paints.

Gazebos with a wooden structure are certainly the best solution for those who want to enjoy the outdoor spaces of their home and do not want to worry about maintenance work on the structure.

Attention! If we want to be sure that we do not have to deal with the maintenance of the structure, we will have to check before purchasing that it is well enamelled in all its parts, especially on the edges and at the junction points.

Advise: check that the screws supplied together with the structure are made of stainless steel.

Finally, I would like to share some systems for fixing the gazebo based on our needs and peculiarities of the area where we live.
Depending on the windiness of the area where we live, various solutions are possible:

• a less windy area, where the intensity of the wind is not very high, it is also possible to simply place the structure on the surface intended to welcome it; this solution is not advisable especially in recent times when unexpected atmospheric events could find us unprepared
• if the area is moderately windy it is possible to attach ballasts to the legs of the structure to anchor the gazebo to the ground; clearly depending on the shape of the legs various solutions are possible, commonly we use cement tiles placed on the lower part of the legs, or we can also place heavy structures such as vases or planters next to the legs and insert cement into the hollow (to grip quick) being careful to leave just enough margin so that it is not visible.

• if the area is very windy it is possible to use special plates which are equipped with an opening into which the leg is inserted and which can be fixed to the upper support.
